Final Digipak

Here is my final Digipak, I feel it is successful because the colour is eye-catching. The logo also stands out and will become recognisable. I decided to use images of the front of the house, inside, and outside as a representation of the audience being invited in to Tonic's imaginary world, full of creativity, experiments and uniqueness. The drawing of the band was influenced by The Beatles poster which used a similar technique. I decided not to use a real image of them because the bands focus is on their passion for music not their appearance or fame. I added social media sites on the back cover as this fits in with the primary target audience consisting of teenagers whom would be regular users of these sites. Overall I feel this meets my expectations of creating a fun, experimental and creative design. It also meets the conventions of the Indie genre which I have reinforced by previously researching existing products.

Final Poster

I decided to keep the colour on my poster despite previous feedback, because I feel it represents the fun, creativity aspects of the band. I also used the drawing of the band because I feel this continues the creative theme. It also ties in well and reflects the animated music video. I decided to keep the poster simple by only promoting the album; I feel the colour and logo will attract my audience and form an interest around the band. Overall it reflects the conventions of the Indie genre by representing a creative, fun and experimental band whom are focused on their music.

Digipak Development

I have changed my panels on my Digipak as I had previously put them in the wrong position. The front cover involves the bands logo to make them recognisable, I also used coloured waves to present the name of the album 'Colour spectrum', and feel this works well as it is bright and white background helps the colour to stand out. I also reflected this on the back panel to create a continuity through the Digipak. The top three panels involve the front of the house, this is where I placed the track list - I feel I may need to improve the composition of the track list as I don't feel the typography is easy to understand. The disc then represents the plasiticine band in a house, I feel this works well as the image was taken from the bands debut song 'Bohemian Like You'. I then decided to use images of the musical instruments within the music video because I feel each instrument reflects a band member, this is also emphasised through the logo containing silhouettes of the instruments. The panel involving the band reflects them through the same drawing which was used on the poster; the reason i decided to not use a photo of the real band is because Tonic are not creating music to become famous, they are doing it because they enjoy it and they feel their image is less important than the music. Therefore I have only used a short live performance from them in the music video. I also feel I need to change the composition of the spine because the logo has not been positioned in the centre.

Feedback

Once we had uploaded the video to YouTube we received several comments from people, they were all very positive and presents how our time and effort was worth it. I feel our final music video turned out better than I predicted because I felt we would get bored and impatient with the slow process of stop motion.

Final Music Video

Here we have finally completed our music video, I really like the use of the live performance because it means the stop motion doesn't get boring or predictable; it also helps the narrative come together and makes it easy to understand for our audience. I feel our video is successful and the time and effort put into creating the stop motion was worth it.

Final shoot

Today we captured the last scenes needed in order to complete our music video, the scenes involved the real Tonic band finding and crushing the plasticine men who have been pretending to be them. The last scene of our music video shows the real band destroying the fake band which helps complete out narrative. I feel filming went well because we were able to achieve Goodwin's theory of close ups of band members and a live performance. The live performance is also a convention of our Indie genre, therefore we captured long shots and close ups to represent this. Whilst filming we had the issue of lighting because some shots appeared darker than we desired. To overcome this problem we will edit and improve the shots using Final Cut Pro.
We also captured close ups of the main singer as this will be our only reference of lip syncing. Our next intension consists of completing the editing and then begin our evaluations.

Editing

Today I continued to edit each scene together while the other group members filmed the live performance. However, when doing this i noticed some scenes which another group member had edited wasn't up to the standard I requested, this made the editing more time consuming because I had to revisit a task I thought was completed. Overall I feel our progress is going well and our music video will be soon completed.

Extra scenes

We have recently discovered our video may be shorter than expected, this is due to planned scenes being either longer or shorter than we had originally planned. Therefore we have decided to film extra scenes just incase we need to fill in a gap, we tried to keep the scenes to the indie genre, to do this we filmed musical instruments. The next stage was to edit this new footage, we did this immediately after filming to help us keep on top of the deadline. Overall I feel this was successful but we do need to work hard in order to meet the deadline.

Behind the scenes - Filming

Filming and editing

With the deadline soon approaching we have filmed a range of scenes, continuing with the cute, fun atmosphere we decided to use a scrabble board to spell out the bands name, we also had a band member climbing a pile of books to emphasis they are small people in a big world. Once we had the footage we went onto editing the scenes - even though I am editor we have been sharing the roles as it is more time efficient. We edited a scene each, my role as editor comes in place when editing each scene together, this is where I feel I will be most tested because I will need to make the right decisions to make the music video most successful.

Continuing to improve

Since receiving the feedback on my Digipak and poster I have tried to improve the negative aspects. I have toned down the brightness of the colour because people felt it did not present the Indie genre. However, others disagreed and felt it harmonised with the tone of the band and the atmosphere of the music video. I enjoy the colour because it represents the name of the album and also connotes the fun, exciting personalities of the band members.

First screening feedback

The feedback we received consisted of positive and negative aspects of both the music video and print media. The main aspect we noticed is our print media does need improvements. However, I am currently confused with the direction my print media will go in; because some people liked the idea of the bright, bold colour because it reflects the name of the album 'colour spectrum', but others felt it did not represent the Indie genre. I slightly agree about the conventions of the Indie genre, but in my digipak was aiming for a positive feel to represent the creativity of the band.
I also agree some shots go on for to long in the music video, especially the one involving the man on the music note book, I will be improving this by re editing the shots and ensuring they fit the pace of the music.
Overall, I feel our first screening was successful but we do need to put in hard work and time to complete and achieve the music video we desire.

First screening

Today was the first screening for our music video, we also presented our Digipak's and posters  to receive feedback which will help us improve them. Our music video has missing footage reasons for this consist of not capturing the images we need and when we edited some scenes they did not succeed in the quality and expectation we desire.

Digipak development

Here I have added my band members onto my digipak, I really like the visual symmetry it gives with two members on each side as you open the digipak. However, I am unsure on the handwritten typography for the track listing and feel it needs improving.

Filming and Editing

Today we continued to film, I feel the day was successful because we achieved 3 more scenes. However, I feel my group may need to put in more time as the editing has been taking longer than expected we have less scenes than we had hoped for at this point. When editing the new scenes we were faced with a problem involving the speed of each clip to fit the pace of the music. Because our music is made up of hundreds of images we were unable to use the speed tool on final cut pro, instead we had to cut each image, one by one... when viewing the outcome the clips were to slow and out of sync with the music. Therefore we had to start the whole process again and had to recut each image.
